This 3-day safari offers a perfect escape into the heart of Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s only savannah park and home to the iconic Big Five. Covering scenic rolling hills, acacia woodlands, sweeping grasslands, and a network of swamps and lakes fed by the Akagera River (one of the Nile’s most remote sources), the park provides a spectacular setting for classic African game drives.
With over 500 bird species and rich wildlife diversity, Akagera National Park is a haven for safari enthusiasts. Expect to see herds of elephants, buffalo, zebras, and antelopes, as well as hippos and crocodiles, along the lakeshores. Predators such as lions, leopards, spotted hyenas, and even the elusive serval cat also roam these plains.
This short safari is ideal for travelers with limited time who still want a complete savannah safari experience while in Rwanda.
Pickup from your hotel or Kigali International Airport by your driver-guide, later start the Scenic drive (approx. 2.5 hours) through Rwanda’s rolling countryside to Akagera National Park arrive in time for lunch at your lodge, afternoon sunset game drive to spot elephants, buffalo, zebras, and giraffes as they gather at watering points. Return at your lodge with dinner and an overnight stay inside or near the park.
Early breakfast followed by a morning game drive through the savannah plains. Expect sightings of elephants, giraffes, antelopes, zebras, buffalo, and lions if lucky. break for lunch (picnic in the park or lodge meal). Afternoon game drive through different habitats including lakeshores and acacia woodlands. Look out for hippos, crocodiles, warthogs, and bird species such as the African fish eagle and shoebill stork. Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Breakfast at leisure, later drive back to Kigali, arriving by midday or early afternoon. Drop off at your hotel or Kigali International Airport.
